By Alex Varnals onThursday, April 26, 2007 5:20 PM

I have been contacted about a unique opportunity with history, mystery and diving. How would you like to take part in archaeological work on historic shipwrecks in the Dominican Republic?

ADMAT (the Anglo~Danish Maritime Archaeological Team) and ADMAT FRANCE are planning to run Maritime Archaeological field schools on the "Tile Wreck" (a presumed 1720's French merchant ship) in the Dominican Republic from July 2007.  These f ...

Fantastic Diving at Eight Acre Lake
By Alex Varnals onSunday, April 22, 2007 4:00 PM

Well done to Charlotte who completed her final three open water training dives today at 8 Acre Lake.  In 3 wetsuits, yes 3 suits (3mm full and two 3mm shorties) she worked very hard in eight degrees centigrade water at Eight Acre Lake.  With superb visibility, upto 8 meters, Chris and Mike helped guide her through the dives.  Charlotte is Diving Leisure Leeds smallest Junior Open Water diver with big enthusiasm.

Richard also came along from The Wilson Tribe for a dive with Luke, who was completing the Discover Local Diving portion of his Divemaster Conducted programs of his PADI Divemaster course.  They had lots of fun, even if they did get a little lost on the second dive, even with the good visibility!!

NEW PADI Open Water Course - Ladies Only
By Alex Varnals onWednesday, April 11, 2007 9:32 PM

Tonight saw three new students start their PADI Open Water diver course and fun was had by all.  Louise, Gilly and Lisa all got under way with Module 1 of the course on our first course with all ladies both staff and students.  This marks a growing trend here at Diving Leisure Leeds, where we have noticed an increasing number of ladies joining the sport.  With Cathy, one of our senior instructors, and Vanessa, one of our oh so nearly qualified Divemasters, the girls had a great time.

Wreck Diving in Oban
By Alex Varnals onFriday, April 06, 2007 3:40 PM

Today was our first day in Oban, after arriving late (around 11.30pm) the night before, we had a very lazy start with our RIB dives kicking off around 1pm.  The tides were flooding into the Sound of Mull and this gave us the perfect opportunity to dive a favourite wreck of mine, The Thesis.

We descended down and out of the dark, the wreck emerged at around 16m.  The mooring buoy is attached at the bow and as we descended the flooding tide was starting to move.  To the starboard bow there is a big hole in the side of the wreck which makes a superb entry point.  From here we descended through the wreck, which is open to the sides and has lots of exit points above.  The stern sits in around 28m of water with the rudder at around 32m.  This is a great wreck to develop your wreck diving skills on.

Its ALIVE, the beast lives
By Alex Varnals onThursday, April 05, 2007 5:06 PM

We have awkened a sleeping giant.  Yes its true, the beast shall live.  Finally we have got the compressor working, it has taken several months, but we are there and now have the facility to offer air fills.  The Nitrox and Trimix filling station should be completed within about 6 weeks, so by May we should be a fully functioning blending station!!!

Drop in and say hi and see the beast in action for yourself!!
