Nitrox and Trimix Blending Panel Now Installed
By Alex Varnals onTuesday, February 26, 2008 9:26 PM

After a couple of weeks with the compressor being paritaly, we are now proud to announce that our new filtration system has now been installed.  We also have a new manifold bar & gas blending panel which has been installed in the retail area of the dive centre.  This means we can now offer oxygen clean air, nitrox, trimix and in the not too distant future Argon.

We have a few bits of pipework still to plumb in, but the new parts are now in.  This means we will be able to fill upto four air cylinders AND one NITROX/TRIMIX fill at the same time.

Did we mention we now offer NITROX AND TRIMIX?

If you want any further information about our gas blending facilites, please give us a call or drop in and Alex will be pleased to give you the guided tour.

NEW Filtration System has arrived
By Alex Varnals onMonday, February 25, 2008 6:45 PM

We have just received a NEW Filtration System for our current compressor.  This new filtration system is big.  Really big.  For the techies out there, it will be able to filter upto 2 million litres of air before changing the filters...  Thats alot of gas.  It will also mean that ALL the gas we will pumping is oxygen compatible and sqeaky clean.

For those of you really interested in small technical details we have a 300 bar whip, however we will only be running the compressor to around 250 - 260 bar for the moment.  The compressor will be pumping upto 300 bar (plus) by Autumn 2008 if there is demand for it.  Let us know if you require 300 bar fills.

PADI Deep, Wreck & Advanced Open Water
By Alex Varnals onSunday, February 24, 2008 7:53 PM

This is the one of most popular course combinations.  Mainly because alot of the wrecks around the coast of England tend to be deep.

Luke and Nick completed the three dives developing their skills.  Nick practised laying lines and narcosis tests during his training dives.  Luke is developing his skills in a variety of areas at the moment as he is looking to complete the PADI Assistant Instructor course in March (next month).

Lisa and Alastair carried out two training dives towards the completion of the PADI Advanced Open Water diver course, PPB and Underwater Navigation.  The Peak Performance Buoyancy dive allows the students to play games and develop buoyancy skills at the same time.  As you may or may not have read before the Underwater Navigation dive does not require compasses that use batteries, does it Graham...

PADI Drysuit Specialty
By Alex Varnals onSaturday, February 23, 2008 10:09 AM

Today was an appropriate day to carry out the PADI Drysuit Specialty as the water is 5 degrees in the fresh water of Blue Lagoon.  Graham, Clare and Jen carries out the two open water training dives with Vanessa, Luke and Mike.  The guys did really well considering the visiblity was not so good today.

The guys, however, did make the best of the situation and developed their skills over the two dive.  After the dives the students and staff came back to the dive centre to log their dives and get a warm cup of coffee....

Dive Centre Re-Organisation
By Alex Varnals onFriday, February 22, 2008 10:14 PM
Luke and Alex missed the pool session this evening to carry out some essential building work.  During the afternoon one of the display cabinets was removed by our technical staff (Alex, Luke and a lump hammer!).  The window and display cabinet area has now been transformed into the new area for the gas mixing panel which is due to be installed next week.

The Frog range of scuba diving gear is a superb addition to the Diving Leisure Leeds range of equipment.  It is ideal for both novice divers or advanced technical divers.  They offer a range of products from simple introductory BCD's to twinset wing systems.

More information about the Frog gear will be released shortly.  For further details give us a call at the dive centre.

Capernwray - Adventure Dives
By Alex Varnals onSunday, February 10, 2008 10:50 PM

"I think the batteries have gone on this compass".  That is my favourite quote from the PADI Advanced Open Water Course this weekend.  The guys completed two adventure dives towards the Advanced program, Peak Performance Buoyancy and Underwater Navigator.

The dives were led by Kat and Pete, the buddy teams of Rowena & Pete and Graham & Mark had a great time, I think I can also say this was the warmest dive some of these guys had ever had.  Our new range of dry gloves and 5mm neoprene gloves certainly helped the guys stay warmer today.

Capernwray - PADI Open Water Diver Course Completion
By Alex Varnals onSunday, February 10, 2008 10:02 PM

Congratulations to Paul, Paul and Allen who completed their PADI Open Water Diver and Nicci who was completing part of her PADI Divemaster course under the dicrection and instruction of the PADI Instructor Chris Dalby.  They finished off the third and fourth dives in the training program.  It was a beautiful day for diving, the sun was shining and there was clear blue skies.  The water was a cool 5 degrees, but with the appropriate thermal gear (good quality hood, gloves and drysuits) makes it alot more fun.

I would like to congratulate Chris for meeting the final requirement for his PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer level of Instructor.  Diving Leisure Leeds would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris for his commitment he has made over the last year while developing his instructional skills.

Blue Lagoon - PADI Open Water Diver course
By Alex Varnals onSaturday, February 09, 2008 10:38 PM

Paul S and Paul B started their PADI Open Water today in a very chilly Blue Lagoon.  With a water temperature of around 4 degrees centigrade, the guys were grateful for their dry suits.  The group carried out two open water dives while showing their instructor, Chris, their newly developed skills.

|Today was Pete's first weekend at open water after qualifying as a PADI Assistant Instructor, so was keen to take in the techniques Chris has developed.  Thanks to Vanessa for assisting the guys carrying out the shore cover and assisting in the training site preperation.
