Today was fresh and breezy, but that didn’t stop us from diving. When I say us, I actually mean a quarry full of divers at Eccleston Delph dive site near Chorley, but not Alan Whitehead and I…
If you have never been to Eccleston Delph, aka Eccy Delph or just The Delph, then you should try it one day for a splash. I had always heard bad reports about visibility being terrible and facilities being average. That was a long time ago….
Now the facilities are superb, good changing rooms, great access to the water. In fact you park up pretty much around half of the quarry. The café is great with a log fire, serving good priced food and expensive but good coffee.
The main bit: The diving and importantly the visibility. As I said, Alan and I didn’t get chance to get in the water today, but from the side, and previous experience about 3 months ago, the visibility is actually pretty good. Today it looked gin clear from the side, with a warm coffee in hand. The bottom composition is silty, which can easily be kicked up. But as long as you have good buoyancy control, this is not a problem.
